4 DIY Wedding Venues We Love

The South West is blessed with some beautiful DIY style wedding venues you can really put your own stamp on. From expansive English country gardens that provide the perfect backdrop to your marquee wedding, to brilliant barns with plenty of opportunity to make your own. Below, we take you through four of our favourites across Wiltshire and Somerset.

Bake Barn

This idyllic countryside wedding venue in the South West is licensed for ceremonies for up to 120 guests in the main barn! This stone threshing barn provides a rustic and stylish spot to say I do in beautiful Wiltshire. With a cathedral-like structure, exposed beams and unique circular windows, you can guarantee there isn’t really anywhere else quite like it!

As well as the barn itself, Bake Barn also comprises a lawn and courtyard. The courtyard, often the backdrop to canapés and reception drinks, is enclosed by an old stone wall. Within the courtyard is another small stone structure which is perfect for a rustic bar for your cocktail hour. There is even space in the courtyard to put a marquee on the lawn for an outdoor ceremony.

With plenty of land around the wedding barn, there is opportunity for your guests to camp in your own bell tent ‘village’. This makes this spot the perfect wedding weekend location, so you can maximise your time celebrating with friends and family.

Hamswell House

Situated in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Bath and Bristol, Hamswell House is one of the most perfect settings in the South West for your marquee wedding. Marquee weddings offer ample opportunity for you to really make your wedding space your own, injecting your own personality into every aspect.

50 acres of gardens will surround you at your Hamswell House wedding, with views across the Hamswell Valley. Behind you, the impressive manor house sits upon a stone staircase, making the most beautiful wedding photo backdrop. Hamswell offer exclusive use over a weekend, allowing you plenty of time to set up and style your day on the Friday.

Hamswell House work exclusively with the amazing team at Bath Marquees, who know this special place like the back of their hand. They can provide a seated marquee option for up to 200 guests, with no need to put tables on the dancefloor. As well as the marquee space, you’ll also have access to the Orangery for your ceremony, though under the lime tree is another gorgeous spot to say your vows if the weather allows.

Court Farm

Does a restored 16th Century farmhouse set in ten acres of gardens and grounds in the heart of the English countryside sound like your cup of tea? We’re not surprised, it’s pretty exquisite! The farm buildings at Court Farm have been immaculately refurbished with interior flair and utmost luxury to provide the ultimate spot for a DIY wedding in the countryside.

Within the grounds at Court Farm is a beautiful large rustic barn with exposed brick walls and a high beamed roof overlooking the apple orchard and duck pond. This is usually the spot that couples choose to dine in, often opting for rustic banqueting style tables brimming with DIY touches.

A second barn, often called the party barn, is where the fun stuff happens! With a purpose-built bar space, this is a great space to spend the evening after the formal part of your special day. Although there is plenty of opportunity to add your own flair to this venue, there is also so much beauty within the original farm features and architecture that you could equally do very little to achieve a stunning wedding here.

Close to Bath and Frome, this beautiful rustic wedding venue is on the Wiltshire/Somerset border.

Parish’s House

Parish’s House is an elegant Regency property set in 22 acres of unique gardens and parkland overlooking the countryside surrounding Bath. When you think of an English Country Garden Wedding, we think this is exactly what you picture. A stunning property, manicured gardens with peacocks roaming by, and a lush green space with plenty of room for a large marquee.

Cocktail hour and drinks receptions are hosted in the courtyard by the stunning water feature before moving down the impressive steps to the lower lawn. With an array of marquee companies to choose from, you can ensure your day is a true reflection of yourselves, with various marquee finishes and layouts for your dream day.

Not only does this venue boast a glorious lawn wedding setting, but a stunning woodland too. At the edge of the estate, their woodland includes a wooden structure for your bohemian celebrant-led outdoor wedding ceremony.

Would you like to see a real wedding from one of the venues we’ve mentioned above? Amy and Jake’s DIY wedding was truly a sight to behold, with a celebrant in the most awesome pink suit you’ve ever seen, and a colour pop table decor scheme to swoon over.
